The Eastern Screech Owl is a small, nocturnal bird that is native to North America. Known for its distinctive trilling call, this owl comes in two primary colors - gray and red, also referred to as rufous. They inhabit a variety of woodland environments and are even comfortable living in suburban and urban settings. These owls are incredibly versatile predators with a diet ranging from insects and small rodents to other birds. Despite their name suggesting they screech, their most common sounds are more melodic trills or whinnies.
